Languages at Slovene universities

  • Why?
    • Why Slovene>
      • Because it is logical
      • Because it is comfortable
      • Because it is useful
      • Because it is fair
      • Because Slovene is equal to other EU languages
      • Because the language of science does not develop on its own
    • Why English>
      • Because knowledge is common property
      • Because it opens up the doors
      • Because higher education is (also) a business
      • Because Slovenes already speak English well

Except for Slovene (and partly English), the possibilities to study in other languages are very limited in Slovenia.

  • Officially it is possible to study foreign languages (eg. German or Chinese) at the university departments of these languages and their literature, and at the departments of translation or interpreting.
You can study foreign languages, translation and interpreting at:
Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana,
Faculty of Arts of the University of Maribor,
Faculty of Humanities at the University of Primorska.
  • Of course nobody prevents you to reach an agreement with certain professors and carry out your individual study duties (consultations and oral exams) in a language you both speak.

  • Some regularly enrolled foreign students who don't speak Slovene well, but need to study in Slovene language, do have some language related troubles.
