Languages at Slovene universities

  • Why?
    • Why Slovene>
      • Because it is logical
      • Because it is comfortable
      • Because it is useful
      • Because it is fair
      • Because Slovene is equal to other EU languages
      • Because the language of science does not develop on its own
    • Why English>
      • Because knowledge is common property
      • Because it opens up the doors
      • Because higher education is (also) a business
      • Because Slovenes already speak English well

  • Language is the main means by which we acquire new knowledge, but unfortunately it can also represent a big obstacle to learning. The language barriers to learning are minimized when using our first or mother tongue. Slovenes learn and use Slovene language their whole life, that's why they can feel most at ease and can express themselves swiftly and accurately when using it.

  • The same holds true for the professors. Usually they feel more at ease when lecturing in Slovene. That's why the quality of their lectures in Slovene is also higher.

  • From the point of language use, Slovene students are satisfied with the current circumstances: they want to study in Slovene, and have English as a parallel language in which they read scientific literature, as a subject in which they learn English terminology of their professional field, and as a language in which contents are offered to exchange students.
